Hi all - greetings from Whistler British Columbia - site of the 2010 Winter Olympics. here visiting my son Callum who seems to be putting down roots here. I don't really blame him. It is an amazing place for runners cyclists walkers skiers and much more. Yesterday I ran 10 miles slowly uphill through the most amazing forests to come out onto a plateau with views over mountain peaks, snowfields as far as the eye could see, no roads , no sound other than the warm southerly breeze. I was hoping to see some bears (not too close) but none appeared. This a great place for a holiday and not outrageously expensive to get here (400 pounds round trip) There is a campsite in the valley which looks fine or loads of hotels. Callum will guide anyone on the downhill mountain bike trails - I still think bikes are for riding on roads and hills are for running on!
See you all in the Lakes

If anyone is interested in doing a timed 5k on a regular basis through
the  winter please contact Harvey Jones on 07790494776. I'm thinking of doing
this in  my village, Kirkby Malzeard and using part of the Kirkby 10k
route. If there  is enough interest we could do this at least monthly and
keep a table of our  times to see how we're all doing.

If any would like to join Ben, Paul and myself for a run up to Scarr House Reservoir on Sat morning from RAMSGILL let me know on 07748 356 708 Gary Bastow

Rory and Paddy's Great British Adventure
fiveWednesday, August 20th, 2008 9:00pm to 10:00pm

Comedians Rory McGrath and Paddy McGuinness travel the UK in a camper van in
search of strange sporting events. The pair head to  the north of England and
Scotland, where they try out axe throwing and caber  tossing. They attempt to
beat the pie-eating world record in Wigan; witness the Great Knaresborough
Bed Race; and attempt to take on the world stone-skimming champion at
Scotland's beautiful Loch Eck.

The Bed race programe on tv will be on in the next few weeks on channel 5 called Rory and Paddys road to sport. It's Paddy McGuinness along with Rory Mcgarth travelling in a camper van apparently around GB following different British sports and is in 4 parts so look out evey week!  Gary

On Sunday 20th July I\'m running in the Hawkswick dash fell race at Hawkswick  near Kettlewell
The junior races start at 12 noon with the senior one just before 1pm and last aprox 15 mins. It\'s part of the BOFRA British Champs. Anyone wanting to come along with me let me know. Gary

At the last committee meeting we struck on the idea of a notice board for anyone wanting to get in touch with each other whilst we're all out and about in the working week. As we can't always be at the club house it would be good to be able to ask who's up for a run out at weekend or...if there's one already sorted. Plus..anything else in general.
